These past few weeks have brought both moments of hope and moments of deep disappointment for the LGBTQ+ community.

The Supreme Court’s decision not to revisit marriage equality was a powerful moment that reaffirmed the right to marry for millions of LGBTQ+ individuals across the country. Yet just days before, the Court allowed the Trump administration’s anti-trans passport ban to move forward, restricting access to accurate identification for trans people and increasing the risk of harassment, discrimination, and violence that trans people face. Further, at the federal level, efforts to limit gender-affirming care for trans youth and adults continue, threatening the health and safety of our community by stripping away access to life-saving care.

We stand together to condemn these ongoing attacks against trans rights. Too often, trans people are ignored or left behind in the broader fight for LGBTQ+ rights—even as the trans community has been, and continues to be, the foundation and driving force of our movement.

Our LGBTQ+ community deserves consistency, accountability, and justice from those in positions of power, and our trans siblings deserve safety, dignity, and respect. We condemn the actions of government leaders who treat our communities unjustly, harming those they are meant to protect—and we will hold them accountable for their actions and their hate.

When attacks on our rights come from the most powerful branches of government, it’s easy to feel powerless. But our collective power matters. We’ve seen what happens when we come together. We know what we can achieve when we make our voices heard. When our rights are threatened, we will be here to protect each other. It’s our unity, our visibility, and our love that affects change.

TransFamily Support Services, North County LGBTQ Resource Center, The San Diego LGBT Community Center, and San Diego Pride stand in solidarity with every member of our community. When the government refuses to protect us, we will be here—unwavering in our commitment to support you, advocate for you, and fight for a world where all of us can live as our free, authentic selves.
